Sarah Michelle Gellar was born on April 14 1977 in New York. Sarah's mother, Rosellen, divorced her father in 1984, and she was the only child raised by her mother. Sarah's career started in 1981, when she was only four years old. Sarah was discovered by an agent while dining at a local restaurant. Three weeks after the initial chance meeting, Sarah was cast in her first film entitled "An Invasion of Privacy".
Sarah became a regular hostess on the talk show, "Girl Talk", and things moved quickly in her career. It did not take long for Sarah to became a veteran in the entertainment industry with roles in television commercials and starring in many made-for-TV and big screen films.
As well as her acting, Sarah still found time to excel as a competitive figure ice-skater, placing as high as 3rd in the New York State regional competition. She also gained a brown belt in Tae Kwan Do.
In 1983, Gellar made her first TV movie, An Invasion of Privacy. The movie was followed by small TV roles and commercials, as well as theater, including The Widow Claire with Matthew Broderick and Eric Stoltz. Her breakthrough role came in 1992 as Sydney Rutledge in the teen soap opera Swans Crossing. In 1993, Gellar began work on the set of All My Children, earning an Emmy in 1995 in the Younger Leading Actress category. During 1997, she appeared on the big screen in two films, I Know What You Did Last Summer and Scream 2. That same year, Gellar landed what was to become her star-making role in the critically acclaimed WB TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Gellar had auditioned first for the role of Buffy, but the producers thought she was better suited to play Cordelia. She continued to pursue the role of Buffy and ultimately won it. In February 2003, after six seasons helming the acclaimed series, Gellar announced that she will be leaving the show to pursue a film career. In 1999, Gellar signed a contract with Maybelline to become the company's first celebrity spokeswoman since Linda Carter in the late '70s. Gellar married actor Freddie Prinze Jr. on September 1, 2002.
During the 80's, Sarah appeared in many films with co-stars like Matthew Broderick and Eric Stolz. Soon after that, she began making appearances on television shows such as Spenser: For Hire, Love, Sidney, The David Letterman Show and Regis and Kathie Lee.
One role that really cast Sarah into the limelight was her portrayal of a young Jackie Kennedy in the NBC miniseries, A Woman Named Jackie. Sarah also assumed the role of the teenage brat Kendall Hart, daughter of Erica Kane in the hit soap opera All My Children, that built a huge a loyal fan base. In 1994, Sarah was graced with an Emmy Award for her convincing portrayal of Erica's vengeful daughter.
Sarah is living the high life and it's quite evident that we will be seeing more of this sexy beauty. Sarah may appear petite and fragile, but you don't have to dig deep to discover that beneath the innocent face lies a very ambitious and aggressive woman.
